Apartment of SU men’s basketball player burglarized

Syracuse University men’s basketball player Theodore ‘Mookie’ Jones’ South Campus apartment was burglarized Wednesday night, said Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police Department.

A 37-inch Toshiba television, Playstation 3 console, Playstation 3 controller, two video games, and a picture of his 1-year-old daughter were stolen from the apartment, according to the incident report. Connellan said that the buglers entered through the front door, which was unlocked.

Jones, a sophomore forward from Peekskill, N.Y., had lost his key prior to the team’s road trip to Rutgers University in New Jersey and asked friend Lareea Chiso to check in while he was away. Jones was informed of the burglary by Chiso around 6 p.m., according to the report.

Jones’s roommates were not at the apartment because they were away for Winter Break, Connellan said. Chiso said in the report that the television, game console, controllers and video games were all taken from the living room area, but the picture of Jones’ daughter was removed from his bedroom door. Because the front door was unlocked, Connellan said the burglary appears to have been a ‘crime of opportunity.’ There are currently no suspects.
