The CNY Arts Center is premiering their rendition of the musical “Oliver!” this weekend. The Center is a community-oriented, multi-arts program that teaches classes, puts on performances and promotes creativity in central New York. This weekend and next weekend they are performing the story of Oliver, a poor orphan in a workhouse controlled by the awful Mr. Bumble. The Center is located in Fulton, New York and the tickets are $10 for students.
Craft New York Brewers Festival
Festival season isn’t over for beer lovers. This Saturday, the New York State Brewers Association is taking over the Landmark Theater for a beer and food sampling. The Craft New York Brewers Festival will include over 50 craft breweries from around the state and food samples from Syracuse vendors. The event’s website boasts that brewers, owners and brewery reps are the people pouring the beers, so you can talk to them one-on-one about your favorite lager. The event is strictly 21 and up, and tickets can be purchased online for $40 for General Admission. For $70, a VIP ticket will get you into the event an hour early with VIP-exclusive brews.
Comedians Brian Regan and Rob Schneider
If you want to have a lighter weekend, two famous comedians are coming to Syracuse on Friday and Saturday. Brian Regan will perform at the Oncenter on Friday at 8 p.m. Regan is known for his appearance in Chris Rock’s movie “Top Five” and is the comedian with the most appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman. Tickets for Regan’s show are $37.75. Rob Schneider will perform at Funny Bone Comedy Club in Destiny USA on Friday and Saturday evenings, twice each. Schneider has starred alongside Adam Sandler in many movies, including “50 First Dates” and “Grown Ups.” Tickets for his show are $30 and his performance is 21 and up.
Orange After Dark
Orange After Dark is hosting two events this weekend in Flanagan Gym. Get competitive with your friends during Laser Tag and Glow Golf on Friday. On Saturday, try out the indoor ropes course in Flanagan and play Bubble Soccer, which is when you play soccer in giant inflatable balls. Both events are free and run from 10 p.m. to 12 p.m. Make sure to bring your SU or ESF ID.
“New Kid”
Four Drama majors are heading on a 23-school tour with the play “New Kid.” The cast and play are part of the Bank of America’s Children’s Tour, which will take them across central New York schools to perform. The play is about an immigrant student named Nick, who is forced to overcome bullies and a language barrier. On Saturday, Nov. 7, the cast will put on a free public performance of the show at 11 a.m.
