With only a few more weekends left before Winter Break, now is the time to get off the Hill, or explore something new on it. This week, Pulp’s plan include a festive concert at Hendricks Chapel and a medley of stage performances. Read on to check out these events and more.

 

Holidays at Hendricks

On Sunday at 7:30 p.m., make your way to Hendricks Chapel for holiday music from a variety of choirs and ensembles. The Hendricks Chapel Choir and the SU Brass Ensemble, along with acts from the Syracuse community, will perform during Holidays at Hendricks. The performance will also feature the premiere of  world-class composer Daniel E. Gawthrop’s “The Longest Night,” which will be sung by the Hendricks Chapel Choir. The concert is free and open to the public, but non-perishable donations to the Hendricks Chapel Food Pantry will be accepted.

 

On the stage

A variety of shows will grace Syracuse’s stages this weekend. Catch the Syracuse City Ballet performing “The Nutcracker” at the Oncenter on Saturday and Sunday. The Syracuse City Ballet is the only professional ballet company in central New York. The traveling Broadway rendition of “Matilda: The Musical” is in Syracuse this week at The Landmark Theater. There will be two performances on both Saturday and Sunday, which gives you plenty of time to see what TIME Magazine called the “No. 1 Show of the Year.” If you’re looking for a show within walking distance of campus, there is ample opportunity to see “Peter Pan” at the Syracuse Stage. Performances run through Jan. 3, with two on Saturday and two on Sunday.

 

Holiday celebrations

If you do not have the time to go to Holidays at Hendricks on Sunday, there are many events in and around the city celebrating the upcoming holiday season. At the Erie Canal Museum, the second floor has been transformed into a 19th century street scene with more than 30 different gingerbread structures for the 30th Annual First Niagara Gingerbread Gallery. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. If twinkling lights are what you are looking for, head to Manlius for their annual tree lighting ceremony. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and includes food, games and caroling before the lighting of the tree.

 

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team moved up three spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after a three-win streak last week. No. 5 Maryland stopped their momentum on Wednesday night, though, when they took down the Orangemen 82-64. This Sunday, they have the opportunity to pick it back up as they face Stony Brook in the Dome at 2:oo p.m. Get caught up with the team’s news here.
