Here are some newsworthy events to check out this weekend:

Trump and Cruz campaign in central New York

Republican presidential candidates Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Donald Trump will come to Cicero and Syracuse this Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Cruz will hold his rally on Friday at the Center Court in Driver’s Village in Cicero at 2 p.m. Trump will hold his at The Oncenter Complex Convention Center starting at noon, with doors opening at 9 a.m.

Both events are free, but Trump’s requires an RSVP through his campaign website with a maximum of two tickets per person.

 

TEDxSyracuseUniversity presents Glitch

The third installment of TEDxSyracuseUniversity will take place on Saturday in Slocum Auditorium. Seven speakers will give talks at the event centered around the theme “Glitch.”

There will be a variety of speakers, including a psychotherapist and psychological consultant, local journalist and a student leader.

Tickets for the event are sold out, but it will be livestreamed from the event’s website. It will run from 2 to 4 p.m.

 

Mental health expert discusses stigma

As part of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a mental health expert will speak about the stigma surrounding mental health in the AAPI community. The event will work on fostering more positive discourse, according to the Office of Multicultural Affairs website.

Dr. DJ Ida, the executive director of the National AAPI Mental Health Association, is the speaker.

She will speak in Hall of Languages 500 on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

 

State of Democracy Lecture Series presents last 2015-16 event

Larry Bartels and Chris Achen will speak at the last lecture of the State of Democracy series on Friday. Their lecture is titled “Democracy for Realists,” according to the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs’ website.

Both men have extensive backgrounds in the study of elections and politics. Bartels’s 2008 book, “Unequal Democracy,” won the Gladys M. Kammerer Award for the year’s best book on United States national policy. Achen is a professor of social science and politics at Princeton University.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Qualifying round of state business plan held at SU

The Blackstone Launchpad in Bird Library will be the site of CompeteCNY, the regional qualifying event for the 2016 New York State Business Plan Competition. Students from central New York colleges will compete in six categories, according to an SU News release.

The winners of this competition will go on to compete for a $100,000 prize in Albany. Syracuse University students can also win an additional $60,000 presented by the university.

The event will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.
