DPS investigating reported armed robbery near BBB dorms

DPS said an SU student reported that a man approached him with a gun, asking for his Airpods and iPhone.

Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety and the Syracuse Police Department are investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred on Tuesday at 11:30 p.m., according to a campus-wide DPS email sent Wednesday afternoon. The robbery happened on Van Buren Street near the Brewster, Brockway, and Boland dorm complex.

An SU student reported walking on Van Buren Street when a male suspect approached him, displayed a gun and demanded the student hand over his iPhone and AirPods.

The student complied and the suspect fled on foot away from campus. The suspect is described as an adult male with long hair wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, light-colored jeans and Nike sneakers.

To report a crime outside of DPS jurisdiction, a report can be filed online through the Syracuse Police Department. SPD can also be reached at (315) 422-5200.
